Kronos Editor · v0.1.0 beta

Your KRONOS set, laid out on a big screen.

Build and reorder Set Lists with room to write proper notes, see every Drum Kit key and its velocity layers at once, and keep your Programs, Combinations, Wave Sequences, KARMA GEs and Drum Track Patterns organised in banks.

Free · No account · Connects over the KRONOS's USB port or any MIDI interface

The Kronos Editor app showing a Set List: sixteen slots with their names and the Program or Combination each one plays, and the selected slot's settings and notes on the right
This is a beta. The editor was built from KRONOS data files and has not yet been tested with a KRONOS connected. Reading and saving files is tested against every factory Set List and Drum Kit, and they write back byte for byte. Talking to the instrument is not tested yet. Before you write anything to the KRONOS, get it and save a backup first, or use Send to edit buffer, which changes nothing that is stored.
Features

What it does

Set Lists

Sixteen slots a page, as on the KRONOS, each showing the Program or Combination it plays by name. Drag slots to reorder them; cut, copy, paste and insert ranges.

Notes you can read

Edit each slot's name, sound, volume and its 512-character comment for lyrics and cues, with a real keyboard.

Drum Kits

All 128 keys on one keyboard. For each key: the eight velocity layers, their drum samples, levels, velocity ranges and crossfades, drawn so overlaps are easy to see.

Bank editors

Programs, Combinations, Wave Sequences, KARMA GEs and Drum Track Patterns, a bank at a time. Rename, swap, move and copy them, or find one by name across every bank.

Set Lists stay right

Move a Program or Combination to another number and the Set List slots that play it follow it.

Backup in .syx

Get from the KRONOS one at a time or a whole bank, and save as standard .syx files. Opens .syx files and Sound Quest libraries too.

Mac app

A native app for Apple Silicon Macs. It talks to the KRONOS directly over CoreMIDI and works offline. There is no web version of this editor.

  • macOS 11 Big Sur or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1 or newer)
  • 2.8 MB download
Installing the Mac app

First launch

Why macOS asks first: the app is signed but not notarized by Apple yet, so the first time you open it macOS can't verify the developer. That's expected, and you only need to allow it once.
  1. Unzip the download and drag Kronos Editor to your Applications folder.
  2. Open it once. macOS will say it can't verify the developer. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to Kronos Editor. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.
  4. Connect the KRONOS by USB (or through a MIDI interface) and set the channel to the KRONOS's global MIDI channel. If it isn't found, pick its ports under In and Out.
  5. Click Get edit buffer to read the Set List or Drum Kit the KRONOS has open, or Get bank for a whole bank.

Questions

FAQ

Can it edit the sound of a Program or Combination?

Not yet. Programs, Combinations, Wave Sequences, KARMA GEs and Drum Track Patterns can be named, organised, copied, backed up and sent to the KRONOS, but their parameters aren't editable in this version. Everything inside them is kept exactly as it was.

Some settings show "Not decoded yet". What are they?

A few settings haven't been mapped yet: a Set List slot's hold time, colour, font, transpose and keyboard track, and some drum layer and key settings (tune, envelope, filter, EQ, bus, sends, exclusive group). They are shown as raw numbers and kept exactly as they are, so nothing is lost. Proper controls for them follow once they've been measured on a KRONOS.

Is it safe to use with my KRONOS?

Send to edit buffer changes only what the KRONOS has open, like editing on its panel, so nothing stored is touched until you write on the KRONOS. Write to # overwrites a stored location and is not tested on hardware yet: get and save a backup before you use it.

Why do the slots show Program names?

The editor learns names from what it reads: Programs and Combinations you get from the KRONOS, or open from a file. If Korg's own KRONOS Editor is installed on the same Mac, the factory names are read from its library too.

The editor says no KRONOS was found.

Check that it's connected and switched on, pick its MIDI ports under In and Out, set the channel to the KRONOS's global channel, and click Connect. If Korg's editor or a DAW has the KRONOS open, quit it first.
